Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Receives HEALOGICS Center of Distinction Award for Excellence in Wound Care

WISCONSIN Rapids, Wis. – Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital is one of two Aspirus facilities to receive the Distinction Award for Excellence in Wound Care. It shares the recognition with Aspirus St. Luke’s Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center, which was also honored for its strong performance in patient satisfaction and wound healing outcomes. Together, the two facilities exemplify Aspirus Health’s system-wide dedication to excellence in wound care.

The Center of Distinction Award is reserved for Wound Care Centers that meet or exceed rigorous quality benchmarks set by HEALOGICS. Over the past year, the Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Wound and Hyperbarics achieved outstanding results, including a patient satisfaction score of 95.81 percent, a comprehensive healing rate of 79.50 percent, and an outlier rate of just 6.72 percent. Outliers are defined as patients with wounds persisting longer than 14 weeks who are not classified as palliative or complex. These outcomes reflect a consistent, data-driven approach that places healing, safety, and patient experience at the forefront of care.

“This award is a powerful acknowledgment of our team’s commitment and expertise,” said Athena Boardman, RN, Clinical Program Director at Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital. “It affirms our mission to improve our patients’ quality of life through compassionate, individualized care. It also validates the daily efforts of our entire team and underscores the importance of collaboration, persistence, and clinical excellence in everything we do.”

As part of the HEALOGICS network of more than 600 Wound Care Centers across the country, Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Wound and Hyperbarics provides specialized treatment for chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and post-surgical wounds. The clinic’s approach follows the latest evidence-based practices and aims to heal patients within 14 weeks whenever possible. Advanced treatment options include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings, growth factor therapies, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, an innovative treatment that uses 100 percent oxygen in a pressurized chamber to accelerate healing.

The clinic’s success is also due to its dedicated and experienced care team. Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids recently welcomed Lydia Caldwell, PA, who now works alongside long-time providers Richard Wessling, M.D. and Ridhwi Mukerji, M.D. Together, the team brings over 20 years of combined experience in wound care. Their collaboration allows the clinic to expand its hours, extend care to inpatients at Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital, and increase appointment availability, ensuring more patients receive timely, expert care.

This recognition from HEALOGICS inspires the team to continue advancing care and strengthening patient outcomes. It reinforces the clinic’s resolve to deliver high standards of safety, innovation, and personalized care; while assuring patients they are in capable, compassionate hands.
