Neck Lift

A neck lift is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the neck to create a more youthful appearance and a smoother, slimmer profile. When the neck appears to be aging faster than the face, a neck lift may be a good solution.

Reasons to Consider a Neck Lift

  • Extra fat and skin sagging in the lower face that creates jowls
  • Excess fatty deposits under the chin
  • Loose neck skin
  • Muscle banding in the neck

What to Expect at the Neck Lift Consultation

Be prepared with the following information

  • Your reasons for wanting a neck lift and the outcomes you desire.
  • Your medical history and allergies
  • A list of your current prescriptions and use of any over-the-counter medications, supplements, and vitamins.
  • Use of alcohol and tobacco

During the consultation, plastic surgeon will:

  • Examine your neck
  • Take pictures and measurements of your neck
  • Discuss options
  • May suggest additional procedures that might give the result you desire

What to expect the day of surgery

  • The surgery will be done as an outpatient.
  • You will be sedated during the procedure.
  • The typical neck lift involves a small incision that begins at the ear and extends behind the ear and along the hairline.
  • There may also be a small incision on the chin that are easily concealed, given their location.
  • When the surgery has been completed, you will be sent home with a chin strap that you will wear for several days or up to a week.

What to expect during recovery

  • Your neck may feel tight
  • You will have some bruising, which will fade with time
  • There may be some sutures that need to be removed after a few days
  • You will probably be ready to return to work after a week and resume normal activities after two weeks.

Potential risks of neck lift surgery

Risks associated with neck lift surgery are very infrequent but could include:
