Safe Kids

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is the proud leader of the Safe Kids Marathon County.  Safe Kids Marathon County works to prevent unintentional childhood injury, the number one cause of death for children in the United States.

To help reduce the impact of injuries, Safe Kids Marathon County partners work together to provide education and programming to reduce traffic injuries, recreation injuries, drownings, poisonings, falls, burns, and more.  To learn more, follow the Safe Kids Marathon County Facebook Page or call 715-847-2864 to get involved.

Car Seat Checks By Appointment

Starting in March 2022, Safe Kids Marathon County is resuming in-person car seat checks by appointment only. This is not a drop-in service. To help keep everyone safe, we have modified procedures and are implementing COVID-19 precautions.

At a Car Seat Check Appointment, a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) will provide education on best practices for the safe transportation of children. The role of a CPST is to educate caregivers – not to install car seats. The goal of a car seat check is for caregivers to leave better educated and confident in their skills to correctly install and use their child’s car seat on their own. Learn more about what caregivers should expect from a car seat check.

Schedule A Car Seat Check Appointment

Read before scheduling an appointment:

  • Car seat checks are by appointment-only. No walk-ins, please.
  • If anyone in your household is ill, please do not schedule an appointment. If you already have an appointment, kindly reschedule.
  • Masks are required for anyone over Age 2.
  • Please bring your car seat’s instruction manual and vehicle owner’s manual to your appointment if you have them.
  • Limit one car seat per appointment. Please make one appointment for each car seat to be checked. If you need 3 or more seats checked, please call 715.847.2864 to schedule an appointment.
  • Each appointment lasts about 30 minutes to allow for: inspection of seat, education, hands-on practice, and coaching caregiver through seat installation into their vehicle.
  • If possible but not required, bring your child with you and also bring another caregiver to help with the child while you are learning.
  • If expecting, we recommend scheduling your appointment at least 4 weeks in advance of due date.
  • Prior to your appointment, try to Install the car seat in your vehicle. This will help the technician identify your needs for education and hands-on practice.
  • There is no cost for car seat check appointments; however, donations are accepted at the time of your appointment to keep the program in operation.

Aspirus Health’s Child Passenger Safety page includes videos and other resources that are available 24/7 to help you select and correctly install and use an appropriate car seat for your child.

Most car seat manufacturers post instructional videos on their websites and social media outlets, as well. Many also offer virtual car seat checks by appointment.
