Well-Child Visits

Preventive care to support your child’s health at every stage

As part of our commitment to heal people, promote health and strengthen communities, Well Child Visits are an important way to support your child’s long-term health and development. These annual visits give you dedicated time with your child’s pediatrician or primary care provider to focus on preventive care, growth and overall well-being.

Even if your child is healthy or managing a chronic condition, a Well Child Visit helps ensure they stay on track with developmental milestones, screenings and recommended immunizations-providing peace of mind for you and a strong foundation for lifelong health.

What is a Well Child Visit?

A Well Child Visit is a yearly check-up focused on prevention, early detection and personalized care. These visits allow your child’s provider to assess their overall health, monitor growth and development, and address any questions you may have about your child’s physical, emotional or behavioral health.

Your child may also be due for routine immunizations, which help protect against serious diseases and keep your family and community healthy.

What to expect during a Well Child Visit

The goal of each visit is to create an individualized plan to help your child stay healthy and thrive. During your child’s appointment, we may address:

  • Vital signs, height and weight measurements
  • Health history updates, including allergies and medications
  • Immunization review and updates, including seasonal vaccines
  • Behavioral and mental health screenings
  • Age-appropriate preventive screenings, such as hearing and vision checks
  • Sports physicals (available upon request; please mention when scheduling)

Insurance and coverage

Annual Well Child Visits are covered by most insurance plans as part of preventive care. If additional concerns are discussed during the visit that fall outside of preventive care, your insurance may consider this a separate service and a co-pay may apply.

If you have questions about your coverage, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider prior to your visit.

When to schedule a separate clinic visit

If your child has additional or more immediate health concerns, we recommend scheduling a separate clinic visit. This allows our care team the time needed to fully evaluate your child and discuss treatment options.

Examples of concerns that may require a separate visit include:

  • Asthma-related concerns or prescription refills
  • Acute illnesses such as fever, rash or ear infection
  • Concerns related to depression or mental health
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Medication management
  • Referrals for pediatric rehabilitation or specialty care
  • Sports physicals (can be included in a Well Child Visit or scheduled separately)

Why Well Child Visits matter

Regular Well Child Visits play an essential role in keeping your child healthy. They allow for early identification of potential concerns, support healthy development and provide an opportunity to build a trusted relationship with your child’s care team.

With a focus on prevention and personalized care, these visits help ensure your child has the support they need to grow, develop and thrive at every stage of life.
