What is happening?
Aspirus Health is currently engaged in contract negotiations with UnitedHealthcare (UHC). Our goal is to reach a fair and equitable agreement with UHC that allows us to continue providing the high-quality care you expect.
When does the current contract end?
Our existing agreement is set to expire after December 31, 2026. We are being transparent with our communities so people can make informed patient care and insurance decisions for 2027 in the event an agreement is not reached.
Can I still see my provider at this point?
Yes. Our existing agreement is set to expire after December 31, 2026. At this time, nothing changes for our patients.
What happens if a new agreement is not reached?
If an agreement is not reached by December 31, 2026, Aspirus Health and Aspirus Network Inc. facilities and providers in Wisconsin may become out-of-network for people who continue to have health insurance coverage through UHC. If UnitedHealthcare forces Aspirus out of its network, patients may experience higher out-of-pocket costs when seeking care with their trusted Aspirus Health provider in 2027.

As inflation continues to drive up the cost of the tools and supplies necessary for providing health care services, it is imperative that payments from health insurers keep up so we can continue our ability to attract and retain skilled employees and providers, invest in facilities and technology, pursue patient care improvement initiatives, and provide the excellent and accessible care our patients deserve.

What UnitedHealthcare plans are included in the negotiations?
Negotiations apply to all UnitedHealthcare plans, including:
- Commercial HMO / PPO / POS / EPO
- Medicare Advantage HMO / PPO
- Affordable Care Act (ACA) on/off Exchange Plans
- Medicaid HMO BadgerCare Plus / Medicaid SSI
Does this affect UnitedHealthcare Medicare plans?
UnitedHealthcare Medicare plans would be impacted in the same way as commercial plans, as they would be treated as out-of-network. This applies to coverage for any UnitedHealthcare plans in Wisconsin.
