PORTAGE, Wis. – Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital in Portage has successfully achieved its Level IV Trauma Care Facility classification following a recent onsite review by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). The state trauma team evaluated the hospital’s trauma processes, documentation, training, and readiness to care for injured patients.
Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital received an official letter and certificate from DHS congratulating the facility on its achievement. The state’s review team commended the hospital for its commitment to high‑quality trauma care and its role within Wisconsin’s integrated trauma system.
“This designation is a direct result of the commitment of the team at the Aspirus Divine Savior Emergency Department to provide excellent care to patients who have suffered a traumatic injury,” said Anna Eisenzimmer, RN, MSN, Trauma Coordinator at Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital. “Being classified as a Level IV Trauma center reflects the team's ability to provide timely, skilled stabilization and ensuring that patients receive the right level of care at the right time.”
“A Level IV Trauma designation means our community has immediate access to lifesaving care when every second counts,” said Chris Squire, President of Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital. “It ensures that our skilled clinicians, critical resources, and proven protocols are ready the moment a trauma patient arrives. For rural communities, a Level IV Trauma designation is more than a label—it’s a lifeline. It ensures that no matter where an injury occurs, patients can count on immediate, high-quality stabilization and a smooth, coordinated transfer to the right level of care.”
Wisconsin’s trauma system identifies hospitals using four levels, recognizing that all facilities play an essential role in ensuring injured patients receive appropriate and timely care. Level IV facilities provide initial evaluation, stabilization, and advanced trauma life support before transferring patients to higher‑level trauma centers when needed.
Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital’s Level IV classification is valid for three years.
“The multidisciplinary team in the Emergency Department completes ongoing trauma education and certifications to maintain readiness for both adult and pediatric trauma cases,” Eisenzimmer added. “This accomplishment highlights our team’s dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in emergency care.”
Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services, 24‑hour emergency care, and access to experienced primary and specialty care providers for residents across Columbia County and surrounding communities.
