Aspirus Wausau Hospital provides primary, secondary and tertiary care services as a regional referral center. Specialty referral service emphasis exists in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics and cancer. The hospital has an average daily inpatient census of 160 with approximately 15,000 admissions per year. Outpatient visits exceed 50,000 and there are also more than 24,000 annual emergency department visits.

Your physician’s office will call to schedule any test or procedure your physician may order for you.

Can patients schedule their own tests?
Routine mammograms are the only diagnostic test that can be scheduled direct by patient once a year without a physician’s order.

The Aspirus Wausau Hospital Patient Registration department is located to the north (left) of the information desk of the main lobby inside Hospital Entrance A. It is responsible for the pre-registration of tests and procedures, patient insurance verification and central scheduling of certain tests and procedures.

Pre-registration is completed prior to the date of your services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in order to expedite your check in the day of your test or procedure. Pre-registration is completed via phone or in person and involves gathering complete and accurate patient and financial (insurance) information.

    Insurance Verification

    Insurance verification is a process used by Patient Registration to identify and process payment with a patient’s insurance company for elective and urgent, scheduled and non-scheduled procedures. Our verification staff will attempt to contact patient’s insurance company to verify insurance coverage and policy requirements and, if required, will pre-certify for authorization of procedure or stay.

    Pre-certification or pre-authorization is required by many insurance companies and can vary by procedure or test. Patients or a family member should check with their insurance company prior to admission for a test or procedure.

    Cafeteria & Express Cafe

    Our hospital cafeteria, situated in the lower level of the building, offers a range of options including hot meals, a salad bar, beverages, and snacks. Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7am-1:30pm and 4:30pm-6:30pm, and Saturday through Sunday from 7am-1pm and 4pm- 6pm.

    Vending machines are also located at the cafeteria and in the main lobby.

    Coffee Shop

    Coffee and espresso drinks, and treats are available in the main lobby of Aspirus Wausau Hospital on weekdays.

    Concerns or Complaints

    To ensure we are meeting all your needs, we have designated a patient representatives at all Aspirus entities. Additional resources may include a financial counselor, privacy officer, and/or a medical ethics committee.

    A patient representative is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    This office assists patients in understanding hospital and physicians’ bills and filing health insurance claims. Price quotes for elective hospital procedures are available upon request.     Gift Shop

    Aspirus Wausau Hospital Gift Shop is open Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm, located inside Hospital Entrance A in the main lobby. If you are in need of a gift for your special one, our Gift Shop offers a wonderful and unique selection of gifts, flowers, chocolates and cards.

    Items are also available for purchase online and can be delivered to patients in the hospital.

    Interpreter Services & Hearing Impaired

    Aspirus Wausau Hospital offers free interpreter services to assist patients and families more comfortable with a language other than English in communicating with our staff. Please make arrangements by calling Aspirus Wausau Hospital at 715-847-2444 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    Brochures on lodging and facilities have been prepared to assist patients and families in arranging accommodations. A reduced rate guest housing arrangement with a nearby hotel is available for patients of Aspirus Wausau Hospital and their families. A free shuttle service to the hospital is available.     The hospital’s Security keeps lost items. You may check with the front desk located in the hospital lobby they can call Security to check on lost items.

    Medication Mondays

    Medication Mondays is a free community service designed to help adults self-administer medications and help prevent medication errors in the home. Aspirus Wausau Hospital offers Medication Mondays on the third Monday of each month. This free program allows people to meet with Aspirus Pharmacy staff for one-on-one medication consultations to get a better understanding of the medications they need to take. For more information about this service call the Aspirus Customer Contact Center at 800-847-4707.

    Spiritual Services

    Aspirus Wausau Hospital’s spiritual services are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to provide spiritual support for patients and their families. If you would like to meet with one of our spiritual care providers, please inform your caregiver, the hospital supervisor or dial "0" in the hospital to reach switchboard.

    Parking & Shuttle

    Parking is available. A free shuttle is available from 8:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    Physician Referral Service

    The Aspirus Customer Contact Center provides physician referral services. For assistance in finding a physician utilize our online physician search or call 800-847-4707.


    Your safety is of utmost important to us. Uniformed security guards are on duty 7 days a week, 24-hours a day, supplemented by closed-circuit television monitoring in main throughways and parking lots.


    Wheelchairs are available for use in the hospital. If you need a wheelchair, please ask the information desk at the main entrance of the hospital. Staff is also available to assist you in getting to your destination.

    Visitor Notice

    Visitors should use main hospital entrance. Hospital Entrance B closed on weekends. Visitors should use ED entrance outside of that time.
