Inpatient Rehabilitation
Inpatient Rehabilitation at Aspirus Wausau Hospital works with patients disabled as a result of an illness or injury. Patients may have had a stroke, spinal disorder, injured because of trauma, debilitated because of a complex medical course or other process such that they are not able to return home without additional medical care.
Our mission is to provide a safe, positive environment where individuals who have been disabled by illness or injury can reach their potential, accept responsibility for their lives, and live a lifestyle that is acceptable to them.
The program is designed to assist persons in achieving the greatest degree of independence and returning people to their homes. Rehabilitative services are provided on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

| The national average length of time spent at an acute inpatient rehab hospital is 12 days. |
The national average length of time spent at a skilled nursing facility rehab is 28 days. |
Amount (and Intensity) of Therapy

| In an acute inpatient rehab hospital you'll receive a minimum of three hours per day, five days a week, of intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Your therapy is provided by rehab specialists who incorporate advanced technologies and approaches into your regimen. |
In a skilled nursing facility you'll receive one or more therapies for an average of one to two hours per day. This includes physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The therapies are not considered intensive. |
| Nursing Care |

Nursing care is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by registered nurses as wel as Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses (CRRN). The nurse-to-patient ratio is one nurse to 4 to 6 patients.
Rehab physician care provides a comprehensive assessment within 72 hours. The Rehab physician will visit you at least five times per week to assess your goals and progress. Physician's care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A registered nurse is required to be in the building and on duty for eight hours a day. More often, patients are seen by certified nurse aides. A registered nurse is available in the evening and off hours. The nurse-to-patient ratio is one nurse aide to 20 to 30 patients. |

| Our highly trained, multidisciplinary personal rehab team consists of rehabilitation physicians, Hospitalists, specialty providers, nurses, cnas, physical, occupational, speech therapists, recreational therapists, care managers/social worker, dieticians, psychologists, pastoral services, and family members, work together to help determine goals and the best individualized treatment approaches for you. |
In addition to a monthly visit from an attending physician, you may receive additional visits from a physician assistant, nurse practioner, or clinical nurse specialist. Sub-acute teams include physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and a case manager. |
