Frequently Asked Questions

What is an e-visit?

MyAspirus e-visits provide patients with increased access to Aspirus providers for non-emergency health care concerns without the need to travel to an in-person office visit.

We can help established Aspirus patients with minor medical concerns through a secure online questionnaire available to anyone with a MyAspirus account. Thanks to the power of the Internet, patients can gain access to our provider’s clinical experience for advice, treatment recommendation and, if necessary, prescription medication, all without leaving the privacy of your home or office.

Through MyAspirus, patients fill out a 10-15-minute online questionnaire to be reviewed by an Aspirus provider along with the patient’s medical record, which is already on file. Upon reviewing this information, the provider will offer treatment recommendations. If you need a prescription, it will be sent to the pharmacy of your choice.

All e-visits are documented and filed in the patient’s private electronic medical record for future review, if necessary.

Who can use an e-visit?

MyAspirus e-visits are limited to adults (18 and older) who have had an office visit with their Aspirus Primary Care Provider within the last three years and have an active MyAspirus account. MyAspirus e-visits are not available to anyone under 18 at this time.

Are MyAspirus e-visits covered by my insurance?

No. Because this type of medical service is an emerging technology, at this time, MyAspirus e-visits are not covered by private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. For this reason Aspirus does not file an insurance claim on your behalf.

What is the cost?

E-visits and Video Visits performed by Aspirus providers are now billable to most major health insurance plans. The actual price you will be required to pay for your E-visit is based upon several factors, such as the complexity of the care provided, as well as the Coverage Determination made by your health insurance plan.

What types of medical problems are appropriate for a MyAspirus e-visit?

Minor medical problems that are early or minor in their presentation are appropriate. E-visits are limited to concerns with:

  • Back pain
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea
  • Frequent/painful urination
  • Headache
  • Red eye
  • Sinus problems
  • Vaginal discomfort/discharge

What types of medical problems are not appropriate for a MyAspirus e-visit?

MyAspirus e-visits are not appropriate for moderate to severe medical problems, multiple problems, or problems that require immediate attention. Examples that are not appropriate for e-visits include, but are not limited to:

  • High fever
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Active bleeding
  • Refills for controlled substances
  • Any problem that is new and has an uncertain cause

MyAspirus e-visits are not a substitute for seeing your primary care provider. If you think you need to see your primary care provider or go to the emergency room, please do.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.

When should I expect a response from my request for care?

Our medical providers dedicate time every workday to check for and respond to e-visit submissions. Typically, requests for care are addressed within 2 hours during normal office hours and you will receive your e-visit response via your MyAspirus account.

Please be aware that since e-visits are web-based, they are dependent on technology. Unforeseen issues like poor Internet connections, outages or server issues could delay our response time. Because of this, e-visits are solely to be utilized for minor medical problems that can, as a rule, wait up to 24 hours for a medical decision and treatment, if necessary.
