Choose Your Care

It’s not always easy to decide where to go for your health care needs. The best place to get care is usually with your primary care provider. They know you and your family, your health history and what’s best for you.

But when an unexpected illness, accident or injury occurs you may need to seek help elsewhere. Knowing how to choose the right place to receive care can save you time, money and stress and help ensure you get the best care possible for your unique health needs.

Not sure whether to seek care, or where? The Aspirus Nurse Contact Center is available to you 24/7. A skilled nurse will listen to your concerns and questions, and recommend the next best step in care based on symptoms and conditions. Please call the Aspirus Nurse Contact Center at 715-843-1236.

Where you choose to receive care matters.

Primary Care Provider

Turn to your primary care provider first. This is best place to get care for common illnesses, minor injuries and routine exams. They can also help you best manage chronic conditions. If you have an illness and would like to be seen sooner than their schedule allows, consider another provider within the same clinic who may have sooner availability. Your insurance co-pay is usually lowest here and you have a set appointment time.

E-Visits

MyAspirus E-visits provide easy access to Aspirus providers for non-emergency, minor medical concerns without the need to travel for an in-person visit. Use our E-Visit tool to answer questions on common ailments such as sinus problems, pink eye, rashes, and urinary tract concerns, and receive a response within a few hours. E-Visits are billable most major health insurance plans. Not available for Michigan patients.

Walk-In Clinic or Urgent Care Centers

When your regular healthcare provider is not available and E-Visits aren't an option, Walk-In Clinics and Urgent Care Centers provide convenient access without an appointment. Here you will receive care for symptoms like a worsening cough, high fever, earaches, and injuries such as sprains. Walk-In Clinics often have extended hours in evenings and on weekends. Your co-pay is lower than an Emergency visit with shorter wait times (though please anticipate longer wait times during respiratory virus season).

Emergency Department

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

Hospital Emergency Departments (ED’s) are for serious acute life-threatening problems and not the best choice for minor illness or injuries. ED’s get patients the immediate care they need, that in some cases may be lifesaving. Receiving care here is usually the most expensive and wait times may be longer, especially if you are there for a less serious condition.
