Senator Testin Tours Aspirus Stevens Point to Learn About Patient Care Challenges

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Senator Patrick Testin continued his monthly “On the Job” series with a visit to Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital on Monday, December 8. The visit provided him with firsthand insights into the critical role of emergency transportation and the complex teamwork involved in discharge planning for patients across central Wisconsin.

“These visits allow me to see firsthand how the decisions we make at the Capitol impact our local communities,” said Testin. “I am grateful that I was able to work a shift with the staff at Aspirus to experience the challenges they face on a daily basis and to discuss ways in which we can help improve healthcare options for patients across Wisconsin.”

The day began at the Central Wisconsin Airport, where Senator Testin joined the Aspirus MedEvac team. He toured the helicopter, spoke with crew members, and learned about the challenges and successes of transporting patients safely and efficiently across the region.

In the afternoon, Senator Testin toured Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital to observe the behind-the-scenes operations that ensure patients receive not only immediate care but also the follow-up support they need for recovery. The visit highlighted the collaborative efforts of physicians, nurses, social workers, and staff who work together to overcome barriers in discharge planning and patient transitions.

"We were pleased to welcome Senator Testin to Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital and share the work our dedicated team does every day to care for patients,” said Carrie Penovich, Aspirus Wisconsin Southeast Division President.  “Visits like this give us the opportunity to highlight the compassion and expertise of our staff, and to showcase the ways we are continually improving health services for the community we serve.”

Aspirus leaders emphasized the importance of these visits in helping policymakers understand the challenges faced by health care providers and patients alike. By experiencing the realities of emergency transport and discharge planning, Senator Testin gained valuable perspective on the systems that support patient care throughout central Wisconsin.
