Aspirus Heart Care is pleased to announce that cardiology services have been expanded to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital & Clinics and Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics with the addition of board-certified cardiologist Dr. Amy Schimke.
Dr. Amy (Jacobson) Schimke, an Ironwood native, brings extensive clinical experience and a strong personal connection to the Michigan Region. Dr. Schimke earned her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma and completed her cardiology fellowship at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Schimke proudly served alongside her husband (David) for over 13 years, including a deployment to Afghanistan in 2018. With David originally from Hurley, Wisconsin, she is excited to return to their roots and provide high-quality, patient-centered care to the community they call home.
Dr. Schimke specializes in diagnosing, monitoring and treating diseases and conditions of the heart. She believes in practicing preventative medicine, helping patients maintain a heart healthy diet and active lifestyle. She is passionate about increasing access to cardiac care in rural areas and looks forward to serving the wide range of cardiology needs in our region.
Dr. Schimke will be seeing patients at Aspirus Ironwood Clinic in Ironwood, while also providing outreach care at Aspirus Laurium Clinic in Laurium.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to return home to my family, friends, and this wonderful community. Caring for the people who have made the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin so special to me is truly an honor. I’m so excited to do what I love in the place where I grew up,” said Dr. Schimke.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Schimke enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities – downhill skiing (she learned on Mt. Zion!), swimming, tubing, horseback riding, fishing, and stays busy with her kids’ activities.
