Miron Construction
and HGA Architects, joined leaders and staff from Aspirus Health today to
celebrate the start of construction at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.
Site preparation and
fencing installation started in June, and Friday’s event marked the formal
start of on-site work by construction crews for the $31.1 million dollar
project which will improve efficiency, access and patient experience.
Aspirus is committed
to strengthening healthcare in the Upper Peninsula. As the need for
high-quality care continues to grow, we’re taking proactive steps to expand
vital services and resources to better support our community—today and into the
future.
“This 1920s building
has proudly served our community for more than a century, but it’s time to take
the next step,” said Natalie Seaber, President – Michigan Region. “Bringing all
services under one roof allows us to modernize our facility, elevate the patient
experience, and ensure we’re ready to meet the evolving healthcare needs of
today and the future.”
The facility
expansion is designed to include:
- 28,000
square foot expansion
- Comprehensive
modernization of the hospital by relocating all services currently housed in
the 1920s-era building to a new, state-of-the-art addition
- Redesign
of inpatient rooms to better meet current and future healthcare needs
- State-of-the-Art
imaging, lab and pharmacy services centrally localized to better serve the
community
“We’re excited to
enhance and expand local care while also supporting the growth of the local
economy,” said Melanee Tiura, Chief Administrative Officer, for Aspirus
Keweenaw Hospital. “While the existing hospital has served our community for
many years, it became clear that to meet the increasing needs of our patients,
we needed to build a larger, more modern facility with expanded services and
greater capacity.”
The estimated
completion date of the Aspirus Keweenaw Expansion project is March 2027.
