ER Nurse Cameron McConkie Wins DAISY Award

Congratulations to Cameron McConkie, winner of St. Michael’s Hospital's quarterly DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Cameron is a registered nurse in the emergency department. The patient who nominated Cameron for the award wrote:

“I wanted to write a quick note regarding my visit to the ER on Tuesday night. I am also a nurse and realize that nurses don’t always get credit when credit is due. The nurse that assisted me that evening was Cameron. He was very kind and understanding. What I was extremely grateful for was the fact that he actually took time to sit and talk with me for a few minutes. Of course we talked nursing, but besides that, there aren’t many nurses that I see take time out like that. To reassure a patient, spend some time with them, so that you feel like you are truly cared for. We need more nurses like Cameron in today’s world. Plus, nurses are not recognized for jobs well done. I just wanted to let you know what a great nurse Cameron is, and his kindness did not go unnoticed.”

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding and extraordinary care nurses provide every day. Our DAISY Award winners and nominees exceed the needs and expectations of patients and their loved ones by displaying the Aspirus core values of: Compassion, Accountability, Collaboration, Foresight and Joy. DAISY Award winners receive a certificate, a pin, a statuette of “The Healer,” a banner and cinnamon rolls for their department, and a special parking space for the quarter.
