Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital Expands Diagnostic Capabilities with New Mobile MRI Services

TOMAHAWK, Wis.Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital is enhancing access to advanced diagnostic imaging with the introduction of mobile MRI services, now available every Thursday afternoon. This expansion supports Aspirus’ ongoing commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care close to home.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive diagnostic tool that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of organs, tissues, and structures inside the body. MRI scans help clinicians diagnose a wide range of conditions—from joint and soft‑tissue injuries to neurological, and abdominal concerns—without the use of radiation. These highly detailed images allow providers to make accurate, timely decisions that support better outcomes for patients.

The MRI services will be offered at Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital every Thursday from 12:30 - 4:15 p.m. The mobile MRI unit will improve convenience for patients and reduce travel for patients by keeping services local.

“We’re excited to bring this important diagnostic service directly to the Tomahawk community,” said Rick Mai, R.T. (R), Regional Director of Imaging Services, Aspirus Northern Wisconsin Region. “MRI plays a critical role in helping our providers diagnose and treat patients effectively. Offering this service locally ensures our patients can receive the care they need in a familiar, comfortable setting.”

The mobile MRI unit is part of a coordinated imaging schedule across Aspirus’ northern region, ensuring consistent access to MRI services throughout the week. The regional schedule includes:
• Howard Young Medical Center — Monday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.
• Aspirus Eagle River Hospital — Tuesday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.
• Howard Young Medical Center — Thursday, 7–10 a.m.
• Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital — Thursday, 12:30–4:15 p.m.
• Aspirus Eagle River Hospital — Friday, 1:15–4:15 p.m.
• Howard Young Medical Center — Saturday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.

This coordinated approach ensures patients across the region have reliable access to MRI imaging throughout the week, while allowing each hospital to maintain efficient scheduling and high‑quality service.
Aspirus remains committed to expanding access to essential diagnostic services and supporting the health and well‑being of the communities it serves.
