Aspirus to Host “Talk With A Doc” Event on Healthy Aging and Cognitive Wellness

Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics is inviting community members to learn more about healthy aging and cognitive wellness during an upcoming “Talk With A Doc” presentation focused on staying safe, sharp and strong as we age.

The free event, “Aging UP: Staying Safe, Sharp & Strong,” will feature Christine Halkola Harkness, SLP, who specializes in cognition. Harkness will provide insight into the natural changes that occur in the brain over time and share practical strategies to support cognitive health and independence.

The event will take place Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the Aspirus Laurium Clinic. Light refreshments will be provided. During the session, attendees will learn about:

  • Typical aging versus dementia
  • Lifestyle and environmental factors that may increase risk for cognitive changes
  • Simple strategies to support cognitive endurance and flexibility
  • The role of play and engagement in brain health
  • When functional changes may signal the need for professional support

“Aging is a natural part of life, but there are many ways we can stay proactive about our cognitive health,” said Harkness. “This session is designed to help individuals understand what to expect as they age and provide simple, meaningful strategies to stay engaged, independent, and confident.”

The Talk With A Doc series provides an opportunity for community members to connect with providers in an informal setting while learning about important health topics and services available locally.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. For more information or to register, call 906-337-6541.
