Aspirus Hospitals in Medford and Woodruff Earn National Recognition for Patient Recommendation

Two Aspirus Health hospitals have been recognized among the top hospitals in the nation for patient satisfaction, as measured by whether patients would recommend the hospital to family and friends.

Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics and Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff were both named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of hospitals patients would recommend, based on data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The list is compiled using the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, a standardized national tool that measures patients’ perspectives on hospital care. CMS developed a 5-star rating system that summarizes performance across several key measures, including a “patient recommendation” star rating derived from survey responses about whether patients would recommend the hospital.

The most recent ratings reflect patient survey data collected between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, and were released through CMS’ Provider Data Catalog on May 13. Nationally, 765 hospitals earned top marks for patient recommendation.

“This recognition reflects the compassionate, high-quality care our teams provide every day,” said Jason Troxell, Northwest WI Division President for Aspirus Health.

At Aspirus, patient experience is a core focus, with teams dedicated to listening to patients, improving communication, and ensuring each individual receives personalized, respectful care.

“Being named among the hospitals patients would recommend is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the voices of those we serve,” said Teri Theiler, North WI Division President, Aspirus Health.

Wisconsin performed exceptionally well in the rankings, with 41 hospitals named to Becker’s list of facilities patients would recommend. That total places Wisconsin among the top-performing states relative to its population size, surpassing many peer states in the Midwest and rivaling totals seen in more populous regions. The strong showing highlights the state’s commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care across both urban and rural communities.

Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics and Howard Young Medical Center serve as critical access points for high-quality care in rural northern Wisconsin, offering a wide range of services close to home.

This recognition underscores Aspirus Health’s ongoing commitment to delivering excellent, compassionate care and creating the best possible experience for every patient.
