The session will be presented by Dr. Medhat Fanous, General Surgeon at Aspirus Health, and David Lorensen, Manager of Surgical Services at Aspirus Iron River Hospital & Clinics. The presenters will provide an overview of general surgery services offered at Aspirus Iron River and explain how these programs support patients at various stages of gut and esophageal health.

At the event, attendees will learn about:

  • Esophageal Cancer Risk Factors
  • Early Signs and Symptoms
  • Screenings and Diagnostic Methods
  • Prevention and Risk-reduction Strategies
  • Treatment Approaches and Advancements

“Esophageal cancer is often silent in its early stages, which is why education and awareness are so important,” said Dr. Medhat Fanous. “Our goal with sessions like this is to empower our community with knowledge—both about recognizing symptoms sooner and understanding the many rehabilitation and respiratory resources available to support long‑term health. When people know their options, they can take more confident steps toward better wellness.”

The Wisdom & Wellness series brings community members together to hear from trusted healthcare professionals, ask questions, and gain practical tools to support better health. The goal is simple: to talk about what matters most—your health.

This event is free of charge, but registration is requested. To reserve your spot, please call 906-265-0402. Light refreshments will be provided.

Community members are encouraged to attend—whether they are experiencing digestive or esophageal symptoms, supporting a loved one, or simply interested in learning more about esophageal cancer and overall gut health. Join us to gain valuable insight, ask questions, and take proactive steps toward better wellness.
