Medical, APC, & Audiology Students

Aspirus provides hands-on, clinical placements for 3rd & 4th year medical students, audiology students, and advanced practice clinician students including nurse practitioner, physician assistant, certified nurse midwife and certified registered nurse anesthetist.

We provide a healthcare learning environment with the supervision of a trained provider / preceptor to meet the goals set by your school’s program.  All learning experiences occur in healthcare settings with state-of-the-art resources to meet the needs of our rural communities. 

Program Eligibility

  • Rotation applications must be submitted at least 12 weeks prior to rotation.
    • Please note:
      •  Placement is not guaranteed.
      • We ask that you not contact Aspirus providers directly. You may request a specific preceptor in the application.
  • Students must meet all Aspirus health requirements.
    • Written health records must be retained by the school.
  • Aspirus must have an active affiliation agreement with a student’s school before final approval is given for a rotation.
  • Students must be enrolled in a U.S. based, accredited program.

STUDENT INITIATED APPLICATION
Application
At least 12 weeks prior to the desired rotation start date, student must submit a Student Rotation Application. The application will route to the designated student coordinator for finalization. 
Rotation Offer
Once the completed application is received, a student coordinator will work to find placement. If a preceptor is secured, a student coordinator will inform the student and school coordinator via email.          
Onboarding
6 weeks prior to the rotation start date, student will receive a link to complete their onboarding. This must be completed within 10 business days.

At least 12 weeks prior to the desired rotation start date, a school coordinator may submit a Student Rotation Application on a student's behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Aspirus’ health requirements?

  • Proof of immunity to:
    • Rubella, Rubeola (Measles), and Mumps via two vaccinations or titer showing immunity
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox) via two vaccinations, a titer showing immunity or doctor approved verification for Varicella specifically
  • Two TB skin tests or one TB blood draw showing a negative result, or documentation of a negative chest x-ray following a positive result
    • The most recent result must be within the past 12 months of your first rotation
  • Participation in the (seasonal) Influenza & COVID-19 Safety Programs
    • Valid vaccination or declination form required
      • Masking is a requirement during the entirety of the Flu Season if Influenza Vaccination declined
    • These seasonal policies are reassessed annually and the updated requirements are released in the fall
  • Note: Health requirements are subject to change at the discretion of Aspirus Employee Health

What if my school doesn’t have an academic affiliation agreement with Aspirus?

  • Please reach out to officeofmedicaleducation@aspirus.org who will put you in contact with the corresponding team
  • Note: Aspirus has a standardized agreement that will be used to establish this academic affiliation. The approval process varies from weeks to several months

What does a student complete during their onboarding?

  • Reviews and Acknowledges Aspirus’ policies and regulatory training
  • Provides proof of seasonal Flu and Covid Vaccination information via a document upload, or declination
  • Provides additional demographic data not included on the initial application
  • Completes a TB Questionnaire
  • Provides dates for MMR & Varicella vaccines or titers, as well as TB test dates
  • Epic training and instructions will be provided one week prior to start date
