Screening Mammograms Now Return to Aspirus Ontonagon Clinic

The Aspirus Ontonagon Clinic is pleased to announce that screening mammograms are once again being offered on-site, expanding access to preventive breast health services for women in the Western Upper Peninsula.

This service expansion comes following the recent certification of Claire Grzenia, Imaging Technologist, who successfully completed all requirements to become a certified mammography technologist. The certification process included extensive specialized training, and clinical experience, to ensure competency in providing high-quality mammographic imaging.

With this offering, Aspirus provides annual screening mammograms to women beginning at age 40. While recommendations from national organizations vary regarding the age at which routine breast cancer screening should begin, there is growing agreement that starting at age 40 may be appropriate for many women—particularly after discussing individual risk factors and preferences.

“Aspirus strongly encourages shared decision-making between each woman and her health care provider,” said Helen Domitrovich, DNP. “Screening guidelines can differ, but what’s most important is a thoughtful conversation about the benefits and limitations of mammography, so every woman can make the best choice for herself.”

Routine mammograms remain one of the most effective tools for the early detection of breast cancer, which significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
