New Aspirus Keweenaw physician Kirk Klemme, MD, helps people of all ages live their best life

Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics is pleased to welcome Kirk Klemme, MD, to our growing team of medical providers. Dr. Klemme has more than 40 years of medical experience and he is here to help people of all ages live their best life.

Dr. Klemme has special clinical interests in:

  • Identifying and managing substance use disorders.
  • Problems with alcohol.
  • Smoking cessation.
  • Pain management.
  • Behavioral addictions.
  • Addiction prevention and wellness.

In addition to working with adults, Dr. Klemme has a passion for educating youth about the dangers of smoking, substance use and other high risk behaviors. His philosophy is based in proactive prevention and holistic personal recovery.

“Addiction can take on many forms, including substance abuse like drinking and smoking,” said Dr. Klemme. “Behavioral addictions, such as gambling, overeating, video gaming and other compulsive technology use, can also negatively impact a person’s quality of life. With treatment, people truly can thrive and live their best life.”

Dr. Klemme brings a wealth of medical experience to patients at Aspirus. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and anesthesiology. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and completed his residency at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. His professional affiliations include the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Klemme has practiced within various health systems in the Upper Peninsula including Marquette General Hospital, Dickinson Memorial Hospital, Aspirus Iron River Hospital, and for the past 27 years, U.P. Health System - Portage.

Dr. Klemme is originally from Stratford, Wisconsin. In his free time, he enjoys being with his wife, family and friends. His other interests include mindfulness, history, endurance racing and Pickleball.
