Aspirus Medford Clinic is enhancing access to women’s health services with the use of gentle OB/GYN care supported by nitrous oxide, offering patients a more comfortable, patient-centered option for select procedures.
Nitrous oxide—commonly known as “laughing gas”—is a safe, fast-acting option that helps reduce anxiety and discomfort during certain gynecologic procedures while allowing patients to remain awake and in control. This addition reflects Aspirus’ ongoing commitment to compassionate, personalized care close to home.

Elizabeth Edinger, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at Aspirus Medford Clinic. “The use of nitrous oxide gives patients another option to manage discomfort and anxiety, helping them feel more relaxed and supported throughout their care.”
In addition to gentle gynecology services, Aspirus Medford offers a full spectrum of prenatal and postpartum care designed to support mothers and babies at every stage.
Care begins with pregnancy confirmation and early ultrasound, with patients able to complete labs and imaging locally as well as most appointments until the 30-week mark in Medford.
At 30-weeks, a coordinated plan to prepare for delivery at Aspirus Birth Centers in Wausau or Rhinelander begins and can include specialty consultation to maternal fetal medicine specialists if needed. Expecting moms can then return to appointments in Medford until they reach 36-weeks as well as postpartum appointments following delivery.
“Postpartum support remains a priority for our staff, with follow-up phone calls, incision checks for C-section patients, and six-week postpartum visits all provided locally to ensure continuity and convenience,” said Edinger.
