Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital Recognized Nationally for Zero Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. – Aspirus Health is proud to announce that Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital has been recognized among a select group of hospitals nationwide for achieving a zero rate of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), according to newly released data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The recognition comes from Becker’s Hospital Review, which identified 508 U.S. hospitals with a CAUTI rate of zero based on CMS’ Healthcare-Associated Infections dataset. The data, collected between July 2024 and June 2025 and updated May 13, reflects performance across acute care hospitals of all sizes and patient populations.

CAUTIs are among the most common healthcare-associated infections, and preventing them requires consistent adherence to evidence-based practices, strong interdisciplinary coordination, and a culture of safety.

“This achievement reflects the exceptional vigilance and teamwork of our clinical staff,” said Dawn Brostowitz, Director of Nursing at Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital. “Preventing catheter-associated infections requires daily commitment from every member of the care team. Our nurses, providers, and support staff work together to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care at every step.”

The CMS dataset uses the CDC’s standardized infection ratio (SIR) to evaluate hospital performance. This measure accounts for factors such as patient health status, care location, hospital size, and lab methods, providing a risk-adjusted view of how effectively hospitals prevent infections.

“Being recognized for zero CAUTIs is a powerful reflection of our team’s commitment to doing what’s best for every patient, every day,” said Ryan Lown, Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer at Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital. “Our focus remains on patient safety and providing care that upholds the highest standards of quality and excellence.”

Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital continues to invest in infection prevention strategies, staff education, and evidence-based protocols to ensure patients receive safe, reliable care close to home.
