ASPIRUS HAS ONLY U.P. HOSPITAL RECOGNIZED AS 'TOP PERFORMER' BY THE JOINT COMMISSION
Laurium, Michigan (November 22, 2013) – Aspirus Keweenaw in Laurium is the only Upper Peninsula hospital named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2012 by The Joint Commission.
Aspirus Keweenaw is recognized for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes shown to be the best treatments for pneumonia and surgical care. This achievement demonstrates Aspirus Keweenaw’s commitment to meeting performance standards and continually improving health care for patients.
“Quality is a cornerstone of our health care system,” Aspirus U.P. Regional CEO Chuck Nelson said. “The fact that Aspirus Keweenaw earned this award supports our quality reputation here and throughout the Upper Peninsula.”
Aspirus Keweenaw is one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performers on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. They represent the top 33 percent of all Joint Commissioned-accredited hospitals that reported accountability measure performance data for 2012. In Michigan, 27 hospitals were named.

The Joint Commission is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization which accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care programs in the United States. The organization works to support its accredited hospitals in improving health care quality performance.
