Aspirus Iron River upgrades computed tomography (CT)

Aspirus Iron River Hospital has upgraded its medical imaging department with the installation of a new computed tomography (CT) unit, enhancing both patient experience and diagnostic capabilities. CT is an advanced X-ray imaging procedure that produces detailed 3D images, offering greater clarity than standard X-rays. These scans are used to evaluate internal injuries, diagnose disease, guide treatment planning, and more.

The newly installed SOMATOM X.ceed with myExam Companion premium single-source CT scanner, developed by Siemens Healthineers, represents the latest in imaging innovation.

“Patients are always our top priority,” said Colin Roell, Supervisor – Imaging Services. “This new CT system enhances the care experience by delivering the highest quality imaging while providing physicians with the detailed clinical information they need to deliver the best possible care.”

The system’s intuitive myExam Companion interface guides technologists of all experience levels through each exam, helping them achieve consistent, high-quality results regardless of patient complexity. By incorporating patient-specific data—such as age and gender—the technology recommends optimal imaging techniques, improving both efficiency and accuracy.

Patient comfort and experience were also key considerations in the upgrade. A color-coded indicator system provides clear instructions during the scan, including when to breathe and hold breath, ensuring high-quality images. Additionally, mobile tablet technology allows technologists to remain with patients until the moment the scan begins, creating a more reassuring and patient-centered experience.

Advanced visualization technology further enhances care by enabling technologists to closely monitor patients throughout the procedure. The FAST 3D Positioning Camera captures detailed anatomical information and automates precise patient positioning. At the same time, a premium X-ray tube and detector work to minimize radiation exposure.

“We’re proud to offer our community access to the most advanced imaging technology available,” said Bryan Harkness, Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. “Investments like this ensure our patients can receive high-quality diagnostic services close to home, without the need to travel for exceptional care.”

With workflows designed to adapt to each patient and comprehensive imaging data to support clinical decisions, the new CT system reinforces Aspirus Iron River Hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional care.
