Free Diabetes-PATH workshop offered at Aspirus Ontonagon Fitness Center; register today

A free diabetes self-management workshop is being offered at the Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital Fitness Center in downtown Ontonagon starting in November to help adults with Type 2 diabetes improve their health and better manage their symptoms. The workshop provides the skills and tools needed to face the daily challenges of living with diabetes.

The six-week Diabetes – Personal Action Toward Health (Diabetes – PATH) workshop takes place on Wednesday afternoons, November 14 through December 19, from 1:30 to 4. The workshop is for adults with diabetes, their family members, friends and caregivers. Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required. To register, dial 2-1-1 or (800) 338-7227. Diabetes – PATH is conducted by trained leaders using workshop curriculum that was developed by Stanford University. Subjects covered include: symptoms of diabetes, stress, managing fatigue and emotional problems, physical activity, planning healthy meals, medications, and working with health care providers.

The Diabetes – PATH workshop is administered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) with support from Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital & Clinics and the Michigan State University Extension.
