DAISY Award Presented at Aspirus Langlade Hospital

Aspirus Langlade Hospital (ALH) presented a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses to Liz Voss, Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day.

Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen by a committee at Aspirus Langlade Hospital to receive The DAISY Award. Awards are presented two times per year. Liz’s nomination was submitted by a co-worker and read: “Liz Voss is being recognized for her utmost compassion and joy she brings to each and every hospice patient she encounters. A few months ago Liz had a hospice patient who was very much struggling with her decline. Liz took her decline as an opportunity to bring some happiness into her life through the idea of line dancing. With much planning and organization on her own time, Liz gathered the hospice care team together to learn the line dance for the song "The Git Up" by Blanco Brown. We later went to the patient's home and performed the dance. Liz at that time shared with her patient how she wanted to bring some happiness to the darkness she was currently facing in her life. Liz also provided this patient with flowers and homemade treats she had made at that time. Liz didn't stop there, and she did this with many other hospice patients. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for all the AMAZING work you do for our patients. You are a godsend!”

As an honoree, Voss received a certificate commending her as an "Extraordinary Nurse.” The certificate reads: "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.", DAISY Award pin to wear on her name badge, cinnamon rolls and a beautiful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Friends, family members and many colleagues attended the award ceremony via Zoom.
