Aspirus TAVR Program Recognized Nationally for High-Quality, High-Volume Care

Patients in north central Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula have access to one of the highest-performing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement programs in the country. New national data show that the cardiovascular team at Aspirus Health is delivering TAVR care that ranks among the best in the United States.

Based on publicly reported performance data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology through the TVT Registry, Aspirus Wausau Hospital achieved a three-star rating for TAVR care. This is the highest rating available and places Aspirus in the top seven percent of TAVR programs nationwide based on patient outcomes and procedural volume.

“This recognition is driven entirely by performance and outcomes,” said Marcus Sublette, MD, interventional cardiologist with Aspirus. “It reflects consistent results across a large number of procedures and shows that our team is delivering TAVR care at a level that exceeds national benchmarks.”

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe aortic valve disease, allowing physicians to replace a diseased valve using a catheter-based approach rather than open-heart surgery. It has become an important treatment option for many patients, particularly those who may be at higher risk for traditional surgical valve replacement.

The TVT Registry evaluates hospitals using national, risk-adjusted data that measures outcomes such as survival, stroke, bleeding, kidney complications, and valve performance following TAVR procedures. Programs that earn a three-star rating demonstrate results that are significantly better than expected when compared to national averages.

Aspirus has continued to strengthen its TAVR program through a focus on multidisciplinary collaboration, procedural experience, and continuous quality improvement. The three-star rating reflects sustained performance across key measures and reinforces Aspirus’ position as a regional leader in advanced cardiovascular care.
