Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital Highlights SANE Program During Sexual Assault Awareness Month

STEVENS POINT, Wis.Aspirus Health is recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month by highlighting the vital work of its Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. The program provides specialized, trauma‑informed medical care to survivors of sexual violence across central Wisconsin, ensuring they receive compassionate support at one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

SANE‑trained forensic nurses are available around the clock at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. These nurses complete extensive education in medical-forensic examination, evidence collection, trauma response, and survivor‑centered communication. Their role bridges both healthcare and the legal system, offering survivors a safe, confidential environment to receive care and make informed decisions about next steps.

Jenny Blenker, SANE Program Manager for Aspirus Health, emphasized the importance of this work. “Our team of highly trained and compassionate forensic nurses help survivors of sexual violence navigate the intersecting worlds of healthcare and the legal system all while preserving their dignity and control.”

Aspirus Health continues to expand access to SANE services across the region, strengthening partnerships with local law enforcement, advocacy organizations, and community agencies to ensure survivors receive coordinated, respectful, and timely care.

“Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a reminder that every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, and supported,” Blenker added. “Our nurses are committed to providing that support with professionalism, empathy, and unwavering respect.”

Aspirus encourages community members to learn more about available resources, understand the signs of trauma, and help reduce stigma surrounding sexual violence. Survivors seeking care can access SANE services at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital 24/7, regardless of whether they choose to report to law enforcement.
