Representative Karen DeSanto Visits Aspirus Divine Savior to Discuss Community Health Services and Legislative Challenges

PORTAGE, Wis. — Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital recently welcomed State Representative Karen DeSanto (D-Baraboo), Assembly District 40, for an in-depth visit and facility tour. The visit provided an opportunity for DeSanto to engage directly with leadership and explore the wide range of services the organization provides to the Portage community and surrounding areas.
"I appreciate the opportunity to learn more about Aspirus Health’s operations and the legislative hurdles that they face. I am grateful for their commitment to providing excellent healthcare and compassionate patient care in rural areas and the 40th District,” Desanto said.
During her visit, DeSanto toured the Intensive Care Unit and observed a demonstration of Aspirus Divine Savior Hospital’s TeleICU technology, which enables remote monitoring and specialist support for critically ill patients. Leaders also shared insights into the hospital’s integrated approach to care, which extends well beyond its walls through community outreach and clinic services.
“A central topic of discussion was the challenge of transitioning incapacitated inpatient who no longer require acute care, to appropriate post-acute settings,” said Chris Squire, Aspirus Wisconsin South Division President. “Current Wisconsin law presents barriers to this process and we were pleased to highlight our collaboration with the Wisconsin Hospital Association to advocate for a new “Next of Kin” law that would streamline transitions and improve patient outcomes.”
