Crash Outside Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital Sparks Immediate, Coordinated Response by Emergency Department Staff

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids Hospital is recognizing Emergency Department team members Cassie Tellekson, Registered Nurse, Tucker Moderson, Security Officer, and Ashlyn Overturf, Emergency Room Technician, for their exceptional response to a motorcycle accident that occurred directly outside the hospital on April 5, 2026.

The incident unfolded just steps from the Emergency Department entrance. Initial dispatch information indicated a single patient, but Tellekson and Overturf quickly identified a second victim and immediately moved toward the scene. Hospital Security also responded, retrieving a rapid response stretcher and assisting in safely accessing the crash site. Upon arrival, staff observed bystanders attempting to help, and ensured the patient was not moved to prevent further injury. Working with hospital security, they deployed a rapid‑response stretcher, notified dispatch of the additional patient, and coordinated seamlessly with the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department upon their arrival. Their quick actions ensured both patients received immediate, critical care.

"I would like to highlight the heartwarming concern demonstrated by the multiple passersby that immediately stopped to offer assistance, and the extraordinary teamwork in the face of chaos that was demonstrated between Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department and Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids staff,” Moderson said. “Two different teams unified in their mission of protecting and preserving life upon a moment's notice."

In addition to supporting the passenger, staff also worked with first responders to prepare the landing zone for an incoming medical helicopter, ensuring a safe and efficient transfer for the more critically injured rider.

Tellekson reflected on the moment, “When we realized the collision was so close to our department, we knew we had a unique opportunity to respond quickly. Once it became clear there was a second patient, our focus shifted to getting them the safest and fastest care possible. These are the scenarios we train for, and I’m proud of how our team came together to support our community.”

Overturf emphasized the importance of rapid decision‑making, “Every second matters in emergency medicine. When we confirmed the crash was right outside, we knew we needed to act immediately. Identifying the second patient and coordinating with security and WRFD allowed us to get the patient stabilized and into the ED without delay. Teamwork and training guided every step we took.”

Hospital Security highlighted the compassion shown by community members who stopped to help and the exceptional teamwork between Aspirus staff and Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, noting that the collaboration in a chaotic moment exemplified the strength of the local emergency response network.

Aspirus Wisconsin Rapids leadership commended both caregivers for their professionalism, readiness, and collaboration with first responders. Their actions exemplify the organization’s commitment to patient‑centered care, rapid response, and strong community partnership.
