Emily Friday Awarded the Dr. Elmer and Frances Debus Memorial Scholarship

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Emily Friday, a 2023 graduate of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, has been awarded the Dr. Elmer and Frances Debus Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship fund was established with the Aspirus Riverview Foundation by Merrill and Mary Redman. Mary is the daughter of Elmer and Frances Debus.

Dr. Debus was a physician in Wisconsin Rapids for 33 years. He and his wife will always be remembered for their kindness, service, and generosity to our community. As a physician, Dr. Debus valued those who assisted him in caring for patients. Without the support of people like nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and technicians, he believed he would not have been able to provide such exceptional care.

To honor the importance of medical support roles, one scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to a student who plans to continue their education in such a role. Even more important is that the student demonstrates outstanding performance, a commitment to community, and the determination to become a future healthcare hero.

This year’s scholarship recipient shared that “since she was a little girl, she knew she wanted to help people” and working in radiation therapy is where she can do just that. Her goals include “having a meaningful career working directly with patients, providing compassionate care, and helping patients face cancer head on.”

We look forward to the day Emily joins the health care heroes making a difference in the lives of those who need them.
