Hospital Volunteers Receive State Honor Point Award

Nearly 300 partners, auxiliary members and volunteers from medical centers across Wisconsin were in attendance for the annual Partners of Wisconsin Hospital Association State Convention. It was held October 2-4 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The theme for the three-day convention was “Volunteers, Our Everyday Heroes”.

Aspirus Volunteers-Medford, an affiliate member of the Partners of WHA, was recognized when they were awarded with the Honor Points Award. The Honor Point award recognizes those volunteer groups that are active on a local, regional and state level. Attending from Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics were: Louise Paul, Liz Emmerich, Kay Ludwig, Jo Henrichs, Barb Enerson, Char Drolshagen, Cyndy Meyer and Patti Prusinski, Volunteer Coordinator.

“It was a very good conference,” said Kay Ludwig, volunteer president. “Everyone came away with information and ideas that they could bring back to benefit their local health care organizations.”

A CEO panel discussion with audience-submitted questions included: David Hartberg of Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics in Boscobel; Mary Beth White-Jacobs of Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls; Dawn Gapko of Ascension Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley and Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill; and Darrell Lentz of Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau. The panel was moderated by WHA President and CEO Eric Borgerding, and discussion topics included workforce needs, the opioid crisis, rural community issues affecting health care, and the role volunteers play in the ecosystem of health care.

Each volunteer organization was asked to provide a display of their service to their community hospital at the event which provided learning and networking opportunities.
