Heather Langlois, RN at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, Wins DAISY Award

Congratulations to Heather Langlois, registered nurse in Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital's med/surg unit. Heather is the winner of the Aspirus Southeast Division's quarterly DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She was nominated by a coworker, who wrote:

We had a patient on the unit who had to be here for an extended stay due to circumstances outside of her and the hospital's control. She was starting to get depressed. Heather Langlois, her nurse, picked up on this and spent some extra time talking with the patient, who told her she just wanted "a cabana boy and a margarita." Occupational therapy brought in a cabana boy picture to hang in her room, and Heather had non-alcoholic margarita mix and all the fixings (including the little umbrellas) brought in by her own family, so she could help raise the patient's spirits. She made the patient a margarita, and the patient did not stop smiling after. The patient was here two more days and was still smiling and raving about the excellent care she received while she was here. By Heather going above and beyond and doing just that little bit extra, it made the world of difference for this patient.

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding and extraordinary care nurses provide every day. Our DAISY Award winners and nominees exceed the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying the Aspirus core values of: Compassion, Accountability, Collaboration, Foresight and Joy. Our Aspirus Southeast Division DAISY Award winners receive a pin, certificate, statuette of “The Healer's Touch” and a banner and cinnamon rolls for their department.
