Grateful Wife Shares Thanks
Thank you to Kari Kapke, a screener at Aspirus Riverview Hospital’s entrances. Kari was recently recognized for her outstanding compassion by the very grateful wife of an ER patient, who wrote:
"... I rushed my husband to the hospital for what we thought might be a heart attack. When we arrived, I pulled up the car as close as I could and ran inside. I asked the person sitting by the door (taking temperatures) to please help and asked for a wheelchair because I thought my husband might be having a heart attack. She immediately and without hesitation got a wheelchair and told another member of the staff to contact the nurses for a possible cardiac arrest. She helped me get my husband into the wheelchair, and the nurses took him back to the ER. I was going to move my vehicle, and she walked out with me. Before I knew it, she wrapped her arms around me, and I just melted. I began to cry and let out all of my emotions to a complete stranger; but she didn't feel like a stranger. I didn't realize how badly I needed a hug at that very moment, and she instinctively knew. She reassured me I did the best I could by getting him to the ER and got him there safely. She held me for awhile until I was able to compose myself, and I couldn't thank her enough for her compassion that day. Kari was my guardian angel, and I was so blessed she was there during a very stressful time. When she gave me that hug, she wasn't just doing her job, she was a kind, compassionate human being who knew how scared I was and treated me like I was a family member or close friend. Thank you doesn't express how grateful I was and still am. It is a moment I will never forget."
