Empowering Girls Program receives donation from Aspirus Medford

Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics recently provided a $1,000 donation to the Empower Girls Summer Camp.

The Empowering Girls Program is a five-day camp aimed at helping girls succeed and lead healthy, educated and independent lives.

The program works with girls aged pre-teen to 14 years to combat bullying, teach healthy living, encourage social and emotional understanding, promote mental health and address the prevalence of gender stereotypes in the media. Bullying, stereotypes and mental illness are persistent and cause young women to lack confidence, shy away from opportunity and find other sources for their self-worth.

The Empowering Girls Program began this summer in the Medford school district with the hope of expanding it to surrounding communities in future years. The intent of the program is to reach at-risk youth to promote healthy coping skills. The program partners with school counselors and social workers to approach at-risk teens and is offered free of charge to participants.
