Aspirus Wausau Nutrition and Food Services team puts emphasis on buying and producing local products

The Aspirus Nutrition and Food Services System Functional Team has put an emphasis on buying and producing local products.

The following are a few ways the Aspirus Wausau team is supporting the community:

• Weekly purchases from our local Farmers Market – featuring produce in a Farmers Market Pizza each Friday in the Courtyard Cafeteria.  
• Vertical Hydroponic Gardens – growing lettuce, basil and cherry tomatoes.
• Weekly purchases from Country Fresh Meats, Great Lakes Bottling and Mid-Wisconsin Beverage, to name a few local business partners. 
• Partnered with the prime vendor/food distributor Sysco Baraboo to increase local spend. The department spent over $290,000 in Wisconsin products last fiscal year.
