Aspirus’ Rebecca Wagner now a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist

Rebecca Wagner, a Sleep Technician with Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, is now Registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist. This Registry, administered by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, is an internationally recognized credential representing the highest certification in the field for health care professionals who clinically assess patients with sleep disorders.

A respiratory therapist by trade, Wagner has provided expert care at Aspirus since 2002. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

Aspirus Keweenaw also received its Sleep Accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in December of 2021 and is part of the Aspirus Regional Sleep Disorders Center.

“Sleep has such a big impact on our day-to-day lives and our health,” Wagner said. “I’m excited to offer the latest treatment for patients to help determine if someone has a sleep disorder.”

According to the Sleep Foundation, sleep disorders are conditions that affect sleep quality, length and timing, and can affect a person’s ability to function when they are awake. Not sleeping can become a habit. If you go two to three weeks with very little or poor sleep, you may have a sleep disorder. The right treatment for any sleep disorder depends on many factors. Based on test results, general health and medical history, your doctor can help you decide on a treatment or treatments that are best for you.

Aspirus Keweenaw provides patients aged 13 and older with diagnostic and treatment services for all aspects of sleep pathology, including:

  • Abnormal activity during sleep (sleepwalking, talking, night terrors)
  • Abnormal sleep-wake rhythms
  • Chronic insomnia
  • Excessive sleepiness
  • Irregular or interrupted breathing during sleep
  • Objectionable snoring
  • Sleep apnea

“Offering these services is another example of how Aspirus Health provides high quality, patient-centered care close to home,” Wagner said.
