Aspirus Medford Clinic welcomes family nurse practitioner Nathania Adu

Nathania Adu, FNP, Aspirus Medford Clinic

Nathania Adu, FNP, is now seeing patients at Aspirus Medford Clinic. She is a family medicine specialist providing primary health care services to people of all ages.

A nurse since 2014, Adu became a nurse practitioner in 2018. “The best thing about being a health care provider is talking to people and learning their stories,” she said. “Past experiences, financial situation, cultural practices and religious beliefs shape a person’s view of health and have an effect on health care decision making. By learning the patient’s story, I am better able to educate and empower my patients to improve their health.”

One of her biggest health care interests is nutrition and exercise. Her master’s degree project focused on how a plant-based diet can help stop and reverse heart disease. “Putting principles I’ve learned into practice has positively impacted the health of my family and me,” she said. Her other special interests include preventive care and infectious disease.

Adu earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She is currently working toward a doctor of nursing practice degree. She is certified in basic life support and advanced cardiac life support.

The child of Haitian immigrants, Adu was born and raised in Florida. Outside of work, she likes to read (especially fiction, mystery and science fiction), hike and travel. Her husband, an immigrant from Ghana, Africa, is currently working on his doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree in mathematics. Adu has two shelter rescue cats.
