Aspirus Medford Clinic to Help Families Say Boo to the Flu

(Medford, WI) – Aspirus Medford Clinic is offering a unique flu clinic on October 24 for children and families.

Boo to the Flu, is a Halloween-themed flu clinic being held at Aspirus Medford Clinic located at 143 South Gibson Street from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends all healthy children ages 6 months to adult get vaccinated against the seasonal flu, and Aspirus is making the experience of getting a seasonal flu shot more enjoyable and less scary for children.

Children who receive their flu shot during “Boo to the Flu” will receive a goody bag with healthy treats and toys, costumes are optional.  All social distancing and safety measures, including masking will be in place for this event.

Health experts are predicting the upcoming flu season to be particularly impactful. The lower levels of cold and flu activity during the pandemic mean people haven’t been exposed to these illnesses as much over the past two years, and our immune systems may be more susceptible.

“The number one thing people can do to minimize their risk of getting the flu is getting the flu shot,” says Pediatric Physician Assistant Emily Tracey of Aspirus Medford Clinic. “The benefit of preventing the flu outweighs many risks that people may worry about when getting the flu shot. If you have any concerns about the flu shot, talk to your medical provider or pharmacist.”
