Aspirus Langlade Hospital receives 2020 Healthgrades Patient Experience Award

Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo is the proud recipient of the 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ by Healthgrades®. This esteemed designation places Aspirus Langlade among the nation’s top 15 percent of hospitals for excellence in patient care.

“Receiving this award is a prestigious honor. It confirms that the efforts and emphasis we place on educating staff and providers on the importance of creating positive and impactful experiences for our patients and their families does not go unnoticed and is appreciated by those we serve,” said Janelle Markgraf, SHRM-SCP, vice president of human resources and off campus services at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. “Our employees and providers are committed to, not only providing quality and safe patient care, but they ensure that the manner in which they deliver that care and the interactions they have with our patients are memorable and exceed expectations.”

Healthgrades is the health care industry’s leading resource for building strong, meaningful connections between patients and their providers. Healthgrades evaluated 3,346 hospitals using Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data from the Centers for

Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2018 through March 2019.

The survey focuses on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. Questions cover a variety of topics including cleanliness, noise levels, provider communication and whether a patient would recommend the hospital to family or friends. Survey results for Aspirus Langlade Hospital indicate 80 percent of patients would recommend Aspirus, which is which is 10 percent higher than the national average.

“The 2020 Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes the hospitals that are committed to improving the patient experience throughout the entire organization,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Healthgrades chief medical officer. “Patient experience plays a huge role in the perception of the care a patient receives, and it is important that hospitals continue to learn from and evolve their patient experiences. It is also equally important that consumers do their research and access this information when determining where to receive care.” As reported through the ongoing COVID-19 Patient Confidence Study, consumers are 65% more likely than they were prior to the onset of COIVD-19 to choose a hospital based on the quality of care they will receive over other factors such as travel time.

Aspirus Langlade Hospital’s mission is to “be a ministry of Jesus to heal people, promote health and strengthen communities”

“I believe our patient experience stands out from other hospitals because we truly live out our mission every day,” said Mary Kubeny, patient experience coordinator at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. “We appreciate the feedback we get from our patients and their loved ones. We review the survey responses, recognize providers and staff for making a positive difference and look for opportunities to improve.”

In addition to Aspirus Langlade Hospital, Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids each received the 2020 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award.
