Aspirus celebrates new emergency department in Stevens Point

Stevens Point Campus

Aspirus on June 6 held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new emergency department on the Aspirus Stevens Point Campus. It opens to patients on June 20, 2018.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker attended the event, which showcased what will be just the second freestanding emergency department in Wisconsin.

"For this system, to be here in Wisconsin, to be ranked as one of the top 15 health care systems in the nation not only as a source of pride and obviously something to promote, but just in terms of what that means in terms of quality, what it means for health care," Governor Walker said during the event.

A freestanding emergency department is one that is located offsite from a hospital. The freestanding emergency department offer faster service for urgent situations that often don’t require a hospital admission.

The new emergency department is part of an overall 75,000-square-foot expansion at the Aspirus Stevens Point Campus that also includes increased specialty and walk-in services.
