Health Insurance Marketplace

IMPORTANT: With the uncertainty around the health insurance markets and federal health care policies, be sure to talk with your insurance provider when making decisions for your coverage and to ensure you are up to date with the latest information.

Important Dates For Enrollment in 2024 Plans

  • November 1, 2023: Open enrollment opens.
  • January 15, 2024: Open enrollment period for 2024 ends.

If you don’t enroll in a 2024 plan by January 15, 2024, you can’t enroll in a health insurance plan for 2024 unless you qualify for a special enrollment period. Qualifiers can include losing your health care coverage in the past 60 days, getting married, having a baby, adopting a child, and getting divorced or legally separated and losing your health insurance.

Here are a few things to help you feel comfortable and understand the Healthcare Insurance Marketplace:

The Marketplace is an easier way to shop for health insurance. The Health Insurance Marketplace simplifies your search for health insurance by gathering all your options in one place. You make one application, one time, and then you and your family can explore every qualified insurance plan in your area, along with any free or low-cost insurance programs you may qualify for. If you do qualify for assistance, cost adjustments will be taken care of right then and there.

What’s covered?

All plans must cover the care you need, including doctor visits, hospital stays, preventive care prescriptions and more. No one can be denied coverage or charged more because they have a pre-existing medical condition. And no one can be charged different premiums based on gender.

Your choice of plans may affect your choice of doctors and hospitals

Not every doctor and hospital will be included in every plan. In order to make the best decision for you and your family, review and compare all information about a plan before you choose it. Aspirus recently partnered with Wisconsin Physicians Service to create a new health insurance plan, Aspirus Health Plan. Aspirus Health Plan will deliver direct access to high-value, personalized health care that aims to improve your health and well-being through all of your health care needs by providing a range of high quality products and services that are affordable and to cater to a variety of needs across all ages.

The Marketplace gives you control over your options with clear, apples-to-apples comparisons

All plans in the Marketplace present their price and benefit information in simple terms you can understand, so you don’t have to guess about the cost to you. You get a clear picture of what you’ll be paying—and what you’re getting—before you make a choice.

Many people will be able to get a break on costs. Programs that lower costs are available for almost everyone. You may be eligible for a free or low-cost plan, or a new kind of tax credit that lowers your monthly premiums right away. New rules and expanded programs  mean that even working families can get help paying for health insurance in the Marketplace.

The Marketplace gives you the straight facts

No sales pitches or fine print are allowed in the Marketplace, just side-by-side comparisons of each plan.

You have many ways to apply for coverage in the Marketplace

While the Marketplace makes all information available online, you can apply for coverage online at healthcare.gov, by mail, or in person with the help of a trained assister or certified application counselor.
