Aspirus Keweenaw Health Foundation (KHF) Executive Director Ed Jenich presents a $473 donation to the Don’t Do It Yourself (DDIY) organization on Thursday, June 16. DDIY was established in 2013 and serves as an emergency funding source for residents in Houghton and Keweenaw counties who are facing a health crisis. DDIY offers financial assistance for travel, lodging and meals for residents who do not have travel reimbursement opportunities or do not qualify for low income assistance. Paper health records are a thing of the past for the Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw, thanks to a generous donation from the Asprius Keweenaw Health Foundation (KHF). Aspirus KHF donated $5,059 to CLK for the purchase of a new electronic health records system. The upgrade replaces their paper records and allows CLK to better maintain the most up-to-date health information for students.

The Hancock Volunteer Fire Department has a new piece of life-saving technology thanks to a donation from the Keweenaw Health Foundation (KHF). Keweenaw Health Foundation Executive Director Ed Jenich presented a new portable automatic external defibrillator (AED) to Second Assistant Fire Chief Neil Ahola on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the fire department in Hancock. An AED device is used to restore normal heart rhythm, and provides critical, necessary treatment for sudden cardiac arrest. Having an AED allows the department’s volunteer firefighters to be better prepared for an emergency 24/7.

Calumet Village Volunteer Fire Department will soon have a new piece of life-saving technology on hand, thanks to a donation from the Keweenaw Health Foundation. On Thursday, June 7, Keweenaw Health Foundation Executive Director Ed Jenich presented a $2,500 donation to Calumet Village Fire Chief Tim Gasperich for the purchase of a portable automatic external defibrillator (AED). An AED is a portable device used to restore normal heart rhythm, and provide critical, necessary treatment for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Having an AED device allows the department’s 15 volunteer firefighters be better prepared for an emergency 24/7. Keweenaw Health Foundation (KHF) Executive Director Ed Jenich presents a $652 donation to Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY) Board President Lynnette Borree, and board members Sandy Uusitalo, far left, and Robert Megowen, far right, on Tuesday, May 3. SKY is a local volunteer organization dedicated to helping school-aged youth in Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga counties build and maintain their self-esteem. SKY provides youth access to needs such as: clothing, tutoring, instrument rentals, transportation to events/activities, summer enrichment programs and more. The money KHF contributed to SKY was collected through an Aspirus Keweenaw employee fundraiser.

Aspirus Keweenaw Health Foundation Executive Director Ed Jenich presents a $500 donation to Karen Karl, president of the Keweenaw Bird Research Group, for their Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch (BMHW) project. The BMHW project involves the monitoring and analysis of raptor migration in North America.

Calumet High School's Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Boys Hockey teams donned pink jerseys in support of the 3rd annual Jersey Fund. The Jersey Fund is a fundraiser that links Calumet High School athletes to Aspirus Keweenaw and local businesses to help bring extra comfort to oncology patients during their care. Proceeds from the games benefit Keweenaw Health Foundation's Cancer Care fund, and are allocated to purchase patient comfort items.

Keweenaw Health Foundation Executive Director, Ed Jenich presents a $320 donation to Tanya Etelmaki, founder of the Brody Strong Foundation. The foundation was created by Tanya and Doug Etelmaki in honor of their 4-year old son, Brody, who lost his year long battle with brain cancer. Brody Strong is a non-profit with all proceeds benefiting pediatic brain cancer research at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The funds contributed to Brody Strong were raised through an employee fundraiser at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

Keweenaw Health Foundation (KHF) Executive Director Ed Jenich presents a $2000 donation to Drill Shop Project Organizer Gary Lassila, to help with efforts in transforming the building into a year-round activity center. The Drill Shop was built by the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company tomanufacture drill equipment for the copper mines. In 2005, the Copper Country Curling Club moved in and installed two curling rinks. The project will develop the unused part of the building for other community activities.

Aspirus Keweenaw Marketing Logistics Coordinator Jenn Jenich-Laplander presents a $320 donation, on behalf of the Keweenaw Health Foundation, to Glitter In Gold founder Royale Walter. Royale and Ryan Walter established the local non-profit in 2014 to honor their daughter Mchalie, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Glitter in Gold is raising awareness and funding for childhood cancer. The donation funds were raised through an employee fundraiser at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

Keweenaw Health Foundation is helping to make the holiday season a little bright by contributing to a Christmas lights display in Grant Township Park in Copper Harbor. Keweenaw Health Foundation Executive Director Ed Jenich presents Don Kilpela Sr. with a $500 donation during the 24th annual Copperman Triathlon and Duathlon in Copper Harobor. The donation was made to benefit his son Don Kilpela Jr. who puts up a special Christmas lights display annually in the park near the community building.

Proceeds from the games benefit Keweenaw Health Foundation's Cancer Care fund, and are allocated to purchase patient comfort items. This year, funds benefitted the purchase of warming blankets to provide warmth and comfort to chemotherapy patients.
