Aspirus

Prevention Clinic

The best way to treat cardiovascular disease is to prevent it from occurring. That is why the Aspirus Heart & Vascular Institute developed a prevention clinic, a resource for those who have not been diagnosed with heart disease, but have a higher likelihood of developing it. The Prevention Clinic team – including a Cardiac Internist, exercise physiologist and dietitian – does a comprehensive risk assessment for each patient, recommends lifestyle changes to minimize those risks and, if necessary, creates an appropriate treatment plan.

What is your risk?

Everyone’s risk for developing cardiovascular disease is unique, and depends on a combination of personal and lifestyle traits known as risk factors. A family history of cardiovascular disease, especially in parents or siblings, is one known risk factor. Others include:

  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Inactivity
  • Obesity
  • Stress
  • Age
