Lung Cancer - Advanced or Replapsed Non-Small Cell

Trial Name: A Phase I, Intrapatient Dose-Escalation Study of Sorafenib In Advanced or Relapsed Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC).

Eligibility:

Inclusion

  • Histologically or cytologically confirmed, advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
  • Patients must have received at least one prior anti-tumor regimen for non-small cell lung cancer and have progressive disease.
  • 18 yrs. of age or older
  • Must meet required laboratory values.
  • Women of childbearing potential and men must agree to use adequate contraception (barrier method of birth control) prior to study entry and for the duration of study participation.  Men and women should use adequate birth control for at least three months after the last administration of sorafenib.

Exclusion

  • An active secondary malignancy except non-melanoma skin cancer.  Patients may have concurrent cancers or history of other cancers provided the other malignancy is not active nor requires therapy.
  • Cardiac disease.
  • Cardiac ventricular arrhythmias requiring anti-arrhythmic therapy.
  • Known human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection or chronic Hepatitis B or C.
  • Serious non-healing wound, ulcer, or bone fracture.
  • Use of St. John’s Wort or rifampin (rifampicin).
  • Known or suspected allergy to sorafenib or any agent given in the course of this trial.
  • Any condition that impairs patient’s ability to swallow whole pills.

Any malabsorption problem.

Enrollment: • About 44 participants

Benefits:

No direct benefit is guaranteed to you from participating in this study.  Taking part in this study may or may not affect your cancer.  It is also possible that sorafenib will prove to be less effective than other treatments for your cancer.  In the future, people with cancer may have better treatment available because of knowledge gained from this study.
