What is a Family Nurse Practitioner?

A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is a registered nurse with a Master’s Degree in Nursing, and advanced training and clinical experience. A FNP diagnoses and treats most common illnesses, and many stable chronic illnesses. Family Nurse Practitioners focus on health maintenance, disease prevention, counseling and patient education.

The following services are available for patients:

  •  Women’s health exams, including PAP and preoperativeexams

  • Men’s health exams, including preoperative exams

  • Well child exams and sport physicals

  • Order and interpret routine diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and labs

  • Diagnose, treat and monitor common and chronic health care problems

  • Prescribe medications and therapies

  • Illness and injury care

  • Perform minor clinical procedures, such as stitches and lesion removals

  • Provide follow-up care and referrals to other providers as needed.
