Annual fundraiser features fun for the whole family
WESTON, Wis. – Run for Hospice, an annual fundraiser for Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, is scheduled for May 11 at Fabiano Brothers, formerly Baer’s Beverage, in Weston.
The eighth annual event features a 5K and 10K run/walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. and features chip timing this year. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Proceeds for this year’s event will be used to help support the community-funded rooms at Aspirus Hospice House for patients with identified financial need.
New this year is the Team Spirit Award. It will be given to teams that decorate shirts, wear signs, create costumes or recruit a cheering section as they run or walk in honor of, or in memory of a loved one.
Online registration for the run/walk, donation opportunities and general information about the event are available online at the Run for Hospice website.
The event also includes a Carnival Midway, which opens at 9:30 a.m., and features games for children, bounce house, face painting, food, beverages and kids runs at 11:30 a.m. Music will be provided by Brad Emanuel & The Whitehouse Players. The day will end with a balloon launch at 12 noon and the raffle winners announced at 12:30 p.m.
This Memorial Event was created in 2006 by the son, family and friends of Kathleen Gaynor Ferris who experienced her end-of-life journey under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. It was inspired by Kathleen's commitment to making a difference in the lives of people in our community.
The 2013 run/walk once again features an honorary hospice family to officially start the run/walk in honor of Jerry Silvis, who passed away on March 12 under the at-home care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
