Aspirus Children’s Safety Center holding open house

Mar 2, 2009

WAUSAU, Wis. – The Aspirus Children’s Safety Center is holding a public open house Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The open house is a great opportunity to learn more about keeping your children safe, and about the services and products available at the Safety Center.

The event will feature games and a prize drawing, and will highlight fire safety. A fire truck from the Rib Mountain Fire Department will available for kids to explore, and free copies of the fire/burn safety book “Brecker Bunny Learns to Be Careful” will be given out. The author, Stevens Point native Hilary Bilbrey, will be on hand to sign copies of her book.

Open since Jan. 19, the Aspirus Children’s Safety Center is located on the east side of Aspirus Wausau Hospital, just inside the Aspirus Heart & Vascular Institute entrance. Its hours of operation are 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays, and from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Items such as bike, ski and multi-sport helmets, booster seats, Pack N Plays, life jackets, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, cabinet locks, security gates, outlet covers and other home safety items are available for purchase at the Safety Center. All items are sold at reduced rates, with car seats starting at $40, boosters at $10, bike helmets at $6 and home safety items at $2.

The Kohl’s Safety Crew, which will be on hand at the open house, staffs the Safety Center and educates people about the importance of using safety items and provides instruction on the proper use of these items at community events and the safety center.
