Aspirus receives $66,000 grant from Kohl's

Oct 31, 2012

WAUSAU, Wis. – The Aspirus Health Foundation has received a $66,854 grant through the Kohl’s Cares Hospital Partnership Program.

This year’s grant is the latest from Kohl’s, which has partnered with Aspirus since 2006 and has granted more than $380,000 toward childhood health initiatives. Aspirus is using the funds from this year’s grant to continue and enhance its free Kohl’s Kids Keys to Life program, an interactive web-based initiative that teaches children the importance of exercise and eating well.

Now in its third year, the program has influenced more than 700 children and is continually growing.

With the latest grant, Aspirus is partnering with Trig’s stores in communities that participate in Kohl’s Kids Keys to Life to promote a fruit or vegetable of the week along with a recipe on the program’s website. The grant also will support new initiatives like:

  • Creating after school activities.
  • Developing lesson plans with teachers and childcare professionals to effectively teach elementary age children about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
  • Further enhancing the program website’s interactivity.

Kohl's commitment to Aspirus is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $180 million dollars through this merchandise program.

In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares® features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,100 young volunteers with a total of $410,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 500,000 associates have donated more than 1.6 million hours of their time since 2001 and Kohl’s has donated more than $47 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations. Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit
